Parental Tips and Links for Gaming, Internet and Mobile PhoneSafety


Gaming Tips for Parents:

  1. Play Along.
  2. Use parental controls.
  3. Teach Internet safety.
  4. Educate Yourself.

Internet Safety Tips for Parents:

  1. Define with your children what content in “appropriate.”
  2. Have Internet filters, firewalls and virus protection software active.
  3. Install monitoring software if necessary.
  4. Keep the computer in an open area in your home. 
  5. Monitors should face so that you can see them.
  6. Actively Supervise:  Show interest in what interests your kids.
  7. Review social networking sides with your children.
  8. Kids should never meet in person with anyone they first "met" online.
  9. Know who your children are exchanging E-mail with.
  10. Supervise chat areas and access.
  11. Let your children show you what they do online.
  12. Visit your kids’ favorite Web sites.
  13. Call the CyberTipline: 800-843-5678.
Mobile Phone Safety
  1. Allow Internet access as appropriate for your child's age
  2. Limit access to specific hours of the day
  3. Review your child's call logs
  4. Ask your child who they text with regularly and remind them that the same rules apply to their phone as to their computer.
